Choose the format for the task
A location report often gets used in two very different places: on a screen while comparing candidates, and on the road while visiting them. One file does not have to do every job equally well.
LaundryLocation, our comparison tool for up to three U.S. addresses, includes a PDF report and a CSV data file. Treat them as two views of the same research rather than two competing deliverables.
Use the PDF when you need a stable reference
A PDF gives you a consistent layout to read, print or bring to a conversation. Keep it available during a visit so you can connect the candidate's neighbourhood context with what you see at the premises.
Write observations separately from the reported figures. A note about a difficult crossing or an entrance hidden from the road should not look like a measured demographic fact. Different kinds of evidence become more useful when their roles are clear.
Use the CSV when you want to work with the figures
Open the CSV in your spreadsheet tool and keep the original data intact. Add your own columns for visit dates, questions, premises details and the person you need to contact next.
For example, place 'utilities information requested' beside a candidate rather than trying to turn every unresolved question into a numerical score. A spreadsheet can organise the work without pretending all decisions can be reduced to one total.
Keep the comparison consistent
Do not mix figures from different areas or dates without labelling the difference. Keep uncertainty ranges beside the estimates they describe. A small apparent difference between two locations deserves careful reading before you make it the headline of your shortlist.
LaundryLocation supplies seven measures and their uncertainty ranges. Use those as neighbourhood context, then bring in the observations that only a visit or a direct conversation can establish.
Build one working pack
Put the PDF, untouched CSV and your working notes in one folder labelled with the comparison date. If you revise the shortlist, save the next comparison separately so it is clear which addresses each report covers.
